After investing the past 10 years working on various home based businesses, I have learned a few things a long the road to success. Some worked, but most simply failed. Like most people, the reality is approximately 90 percent plus will not make any money. Anytime you take on a new project or even starting a home business, there are some things you need to know up front. One thing you need to know about a Home Based Business is that it is not all fun. For instance, it means losing your freedom to do other things and do as you please outside your job. With a job, you give the employer eight hours per day, and that is the usually the end of it, other than the occasional overtime, parties, and whatnot. Your decision to start a home business needs to be based on a complete understanding of certain factors. Being in business for yourself means you have to carry the whole load. Depending on which kind of business you go into, you may find it very confining, stressful, expensive and physically exhausting. Also, a home based business may cause problems within the family. Unless your family takes your business seriously, it can become a losing venture rather quickly. Stop, reflect prior to getting started and have a serious discussion with your family to let them know up front that their will be sacrifices.

One thing I personally recommend when first starting out in a Home Based Business is do it part-time. Then you will have a better understanding of what is in store for you if you decide to do it full-time. It can give you more time with your family, once again, depending on the kind of home business, and ultimately it can be financially rewarding. Based on observing various leaders over the past 10 years, a leaders main ingredient is a passionate belief in where they are going in there Home Based Business. All leaders have it. They believe in what they are doing and where they are going passionately and have absolute resolve in developing their home business. In other words, they are willing to do today what other’s will not, to have time/freedom to choose how they live their lives.

Remember, they are average people that are applying daily discipline and rolling up their sleeves and getting to work in building their home based business. Most people try and over complicate building a business. Yes, there are skills and knowledge you have to learn over a period of time. When one fully investigates the qualities of leadership by studying leaders and what makes them different they discover a tremendous discipline to do things daily that lead them to their goals and creating a residual income. Success habits have replaced negative habits in their lives. Leaders will journal, read, sacrifice short term pleasures, get up earlier, work longer, do the uncomfortable etc. They know what they want and focus on getting it done no matter what.

It’s been my experience so far, the vast majority of people that embark on the path towards leadership, that there passionate belief is initially lacking. Their past does not give them confidence that they can reach their goals so they really do not yet enjoy the reality of an absolute passionate belief. They have HOPE but not belief yet. Like anything in life, leadership is a process and building ones hope and dreams into a passionate belief is a process as well. It’s part of the foundation to building a long and stable Home Based Business. I used to think in my early years that I could circumvent and short cut the process. Man, I was so wrong with that mindset.

One point to remember, all leaders have learned their skills from other leaders one way or the other. There are no born leaders. Leaders learn how to lead by first becoming followers themselves and learning how to lead by example as they build a home based business. This lesson many people take a long time to understand or even believe it is necessary if they want a what I like to call a freedom income. Their minds are closed and they believe they know better, they don’t believe they need to follow anybody, because they know best.

One of my mentor’s and friend, Cameron was finally able to make me see, through his shear patience this profound wisdom. It didn’t hurt me to let Cameron help me be better and allow him to help me with my home based business. I had to open my mind to Cameron’s teaching and examine my beliefs which were not serving me or helping me in developing a home based business. We all have the ability to choose.

One great question of many that Cameron taught me is, why would anybody follow me? Then look around and see who is following you and between the two there should be many more questions to ask that will lead you to discovery, important discovery. Now, this may seem like common sense but ask yourself if you have ever opened yourself up to this concept. Why not ask those around you for an honest assessment of your leadership qualities as it relates to a home based business. Hey, nobody said it was easy, but better to get a realistic perspective, than keep fooling yourself. It really only hurts you in the long run.

Some things I have learned from my friends and true mentors in the past 10 years. Leaders inspire and encourage, share information and lead by example. If one is lacking the confidence one needs to have a passionate belief. Spend enough time around a leader and it will come. They already have it and will show you how as well on how they did it to have a healthy and successful home based business.

To sum things up. A passionate belief in their vision is the major ingredient that empowers a leader with persistence to achieve their goal of having a successful home based business. Leaders are just ordinary people that do extraordinary things at developing a home business. Courage and total commitment flow out of a burning desire, a purpose led life. Most people never really get this by the way. They keep doing the same thing and wonder why they are not successful. That is the true definition of insanity. Keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. My final piece of advice is to seek out wise counsel from people that will be open and honest.

How often have you heard from network marketers, recruiting is the lifeblood of an organization? There are various methods and systems out there that people utilize to build their team. There are several elements of recruiting effectively that we need to master over time. It is where we need to focus our attention if we are to develop a long term sustainable residual income in our home based business.

I am sick and tired of all the crap out there promoting instant success. If someone is telling you it’s easy, they are lying. Most of the stories of quick success in Network Marketing happened because of a strong sphere of influence. Someone with years of Network Marketing calling all of their contacts about a new opportunity is the most common and certainly the quickest way to build a residual income. Sure they might have had instant success with their current company, but likely they have been in the Home Based Business industry for many years, building their contact base. So guess what, they have access to a few hundred people. Of course they will look like an overnight success story that took many years in reality.

Having a strong list of personal contacts is like any other successful business. Think about that for a moment. The lifeblood of any business is actually your contacts and customers. Through diligent, patient hard work one can create a tremendous circle of friends that respect them and over time some will join you in your business. It takes time. However, we as leaders and coaches bringing someone into our home based business, have a responsibility to teach them correct building strategies. I personally have invested the past 8 to 10 years utilizing various methods and I know of several really powerful methods to build a large organization, which I have incorporated into my business.

Over the past 10 years in the trenches of the home based business industry, I have picked up many ideas and tips on effectively building a solid business. Some are good, but many I found just re-cycled garbage. Here’s several tips that you can incorporate.

You can phone hundreds of leads day after day keeping notes and following up effectively. Side Note – if you are purchasing leads from one of those companies, stop wasting your money. There are other ways to create your own leads that are unique to you. I use a system called veretekk. As more people come online, they are looking for a viable way to build via the internet. One method I found was to “shake hands online” and get to know people and create an online presence via social networking. The important point is there are several powerful ways to build a team for your Home Based Business and create a residual income, but it really does require you to get to work and team up with a mentor that can assist you in reaching your goals.

Have you ever heard the term – its all about exposure? People buy WHO we are, not what we have. Remember that. Don’t think for a minute you have to come across as Mr. or Mrs. Network Marketer who has a really successful home based business if that is not the case. Has anyone ever suggested you, fake it until you make it. Stop the insanity if you are doing that. Be yourself and tell the truth.

As individuals, we all have unique life experiences to share, special gifts and ability, just BE real and over time by doing the right activities, you too can create a residual income. Do so and get exposure by sharing in a respectful way, being a friend. Add value in every relationship. A kind word here, some compassion there, a little praise and encouragement when needed, just share your stories of life. That’s what successful people do to build large teams for their own home based business. In other words, its all about relationships. I realize more today the value of that phrase and the deep meaning behind that phrase.

When you do that enough times, people will be attracted to you for who you are. The secret is to turn online relationships into telephone friendships. Always invite people to talk on the phone. Make sure your intentions are honest. People follow people who they trust and feel comfortable around.

Our objective is to have about 150 telephone friends in this manner. Do you realize how many people they could refer you to? Thousands! In one year, out of 150 friends, you can be assured that 3 or 4 will be looking for an opportunity every month. Which ones? Who knows, the only way to find out is by staying in touch and being a friend. People are not stupid, if you are in home based business, they know it. Share your passion for what you are doing when you can. It is your enthusiasm for your Vision that draws people to your home business. Offer assistance and real value to help them move their business forward, not yours. This is where many people in my opinion make the critical mistake. They vomit their opportunity all over the person on a first contact. Build their trust and in time they will ask what you do.

If one does this, after the initial list has been created which can take months or a year to truly develop, the Law of Averages guarantees at least one person a month will join you in your home based business. It’s a lot of work before results start showing up. This is why most people quit and stay broke. It doesn’t matter what program you are in, if you recruit one solid person in this manner every month, one day you will have an awesome residual income.

Like I have mentioned time and time again, it takes patience, faith, and daily discipline. In my opinion, being part of a team of like-minded people sharing a uniting Vision of the future, passionate about a product mission in an environment that inspires, encourages and teaches is the most effective method to accomplish this. There are no free rides or short cuts. It requires work and if you are allergic to that, then find something else to do.
